K31/Tatoosh could be identified by his closed saddle patches. The third calf of K12/Sequim, he traveled with his mother until he was seen separated from her and the pod near San Juan island in July 2005. He was then seen again with the superpod in the next few months, but soon lagged behind and went missing shortly after. He shares a name with Tatoosh island, a small island off the point of Cape Flattery in Washington.
